Shoddy not Shoddy Competition Day

We’re keeping textiles out of the landfill – and we’re doing it with style!
On Friday, September 19th, put on your best DIY or upcycled outfit and join us at FRIDA in Pioneer Square to find out how Seattle designers are transforming textile waste in the Shoddy not Shoddy Design Challenge!
Our participating designers will create a proof of concept that transforms shoddy (shredded fabric) into not-so-shoddy original designs that blend functionality, craftsmanship, and circularity.
When:
Friday, September 19th | 7:00-9:00pm
Where
FRIDA
113 1st Avenue South Seattle, WA 98104
Cost
Free
Shoddy not Shoddy designers are competing for a chance to display their design during Belltown Art Walk, receive a free production consultation from Redesign Collective, win a gift basket of local goodies, and win a baby lock Lauren serger!
Attendees will get to cast their vote for audience favorite, watch a live spinning demo, shop curated vintage and indie designs from FRIDA, and celebrate the hard work of Seattle’s most innovative designers.
The first 10 attendees to make a donation of $50 or more – either when getting their ticket or in person – will receive a gift bag including a tote featuring original artwork by Nikita Ares and other locally-made goodies!
This event is part of Seattle Made Week 2025 and is produced by Northwest Sewn and in collaboration with Satsuma Designs, KFLY Studios, Redesign Collective, FRIDA, and the Seattle Central College School of Apparel Design & Development.
