A Conversation With Seattle’s Sustainable Packaging Community: Food & Beverage Edition

February 6 | 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm

$10

Whether you’re sending people away with doggy bags, serving your food to-go, or even packaging your food for retail, your tasty creation must be put into some sort of container. As a responsible company which cares deeply about ethics and the environment, you want those containers to be as sustainable as possible while not driving your costs through the roof. This is, of course, no easy task. So let’s work together as a community to find existing solutions, and maybe even co-create some new solutions.

The Presentation & Discussion: (4:00-5:30pm)

Join us for a discussion on sustainable packaging led by Modern Species, a sustainable branding and package design agency based in Pike Pike Market. They’ll walk us through a brief presentation on the upstream decisions you need to make (like ethical sourcing, materials, and manufacturing), the use-case considerations (like performance, lifespan, and cost), and the downstream consequences (like consumer behavior, disposal, and recovery) of food service containers and retail food packaging. Once we’re all on the same page, we’ll use the rest of our time for a deep-dive interactive discussion where the group will discuss ideas and solutions to the challenges you all submitted during registration. Everyone will walk away with a sustainable packaging fact sheet to share with their team, ideas to solve some of the group’s challenges, and a network of like-minded business owners who are all dedicated to solving this community’s packaging challenges.

The Happy Hour Conversation: (5:30-6:30pm)

After the formal conversation, we’ll break into an informal happy hour where attendees can break up into topic-specific groups and discuss ideas for working together to solve the greater challenge over a glass of wine, beer, or sparkly water.
